Amber & Naythn's Wild Cariboo Wedding: Four Seasons, One Epic Prank, and Perfect Timing

If you've ever heard the phrase "if you don't like the weather in the Cariboo, wait five minutes," then you understand the backdrop for Amber and Naythn's Williams Lake wedding. But even by Cariboo standards, their wedding day was exceptional—four complete seasons packed into one day, a freak ice rain storm, a ceremony kiss timed so perfectly it could have been scripted, and one of the most hilarious first look pranks I've witnessed in my entire career as a wedding photographer. This is the story of a couple who rolled with every curveball Mother Nature and mischievous siblings threw at them, and created a wedding day that was as unforgettable as it was beautiful.

Between the prank recovery and the ceremony prep, we stole time for couple's portraits in the Williams Lake area. The Cariboo landscape, while less dramatic than some BC regions, has its own understated beauty that photographs wonderfully.

We found locations that showcased the region's character—open fields with the kind of expansive sky you only get in the Interior, stands of aspen that filtered the light beautifully, and rustic fences that spoke to the area's ranching heritage. Amber and Naythn, still riding the high of the brother prank, were relaxed and natural in front of the camera.

The weather at this point was doing interesting things. The earlier sunshine had given way to dramatic clouds—the kind that create constantly changing light. As a photographer, you learn to work with what you're given, and these conditions, while challenging, created some stunning images. Shafts of sunlight would break through the clouds, illuminating Amber's dress or highlighting a particular piece of landscape.
